An elegant celebration in black & white

Amber and Justin envisioned their wedding as a true reflection of their style—modern, minimalist, and timelessly elegant. From the beginning, they knew they wanted a black and white wedding theme, a palette that perfectly matched their love for classic simplicity. Every detail, from their styling choices to the photography, was thoughtfully curated to create a celebration that felt both sophisticated and deeply personal. When it came to choosing their wedding photographer, they were drawn to my editorial approach and love of black and white imagery. They wanted their wedding captured in a way that felt fashion-forward, refined, and enduring—images that would never go out of style. Black and white photography has a unique ability to highlight emotion and elegance, which made it the perfect match for their vision.

Amber infused the day with her own creativity. She designed and DIY’d the wedding invitations, styled the flowers, and incorporated her love of pearls throughout. Pearls adorned her veil and even made their way into the invitations, adding soft, romantic details that beautifully contrasted the crisp black and white theme.

The ceremony was especially powerful, honouring Amber’s Māori heritage in a way that moved every guest. Both Amber and Justin wore traditional feather cloaks, symbolising strength and connection. Later, her relatives performed a haka at the reception—a moment of energy and emotion that became one of the defining highlights of the day. The venue itself also carried meaning. Chosen not only for its modern elegance, it also featured trees native to New Zealand. These became the backdrop for family portraits, creating a heartfelt connection to Amber’s heritage woven seamlessly into the setting.
